i got a call yesterday from my friends jan and kevin asking me to feed their kitty babies while they were out of town this weekend. i said i would and then asked keith where they lived b/c i had only been there once. i remembered they lived in the mountains but i didn't remember it being hard to get to. my first indication that this might be harder than i thought was when keith said, "aha." now those of you who know me know that i was not blessed with the keenest sense of direction so when keith said aha, i knew i was in for an adventure!
he couldn't go with me b/c he had a meeting today so he drew me a map. my maps aren't like other people's maps. mine say things like, "look for the store on the right and go a little way until you see a bridge, go over the bridge and stay on this road ( notice there are no names given b/c it wouldn't mean anything to me anyway and certainly not road numbers!)" etc. well, to make things more interesting, it began to thunder, lightning, and rain like we haven't had rain in like forever! all i could think of was those poor hungry kitties, wondering where mommy and daddy were and why the heck there wasn't any food! anyway, i made it to the road on the mountain where their house is except i couldn't find the house and i had no cell coverage.
let me digress for a minute, b/c i have been lost before i have learned to bring provisions for my lostness. for this trip i brought my boots with thick socks in case i had to leave the car. did i mention that the road isn't paved? i also brought my coca-cola, umbrella and a book. you see, there have been times that i had to wait for rescue so i now bring something to occupy my time.
well sure enough even with my husband's wonderful directions i could not find this house! and i did not have cell coverage. i have learned a valuable lesson when i go someplace that i am not familiar with, i can always backtrack! well i drove all the way into the mountains which on a sunny day would have been beautiful but today was just "interesting" as it was pouring rain. came to the end of the road and knew this was not jan and kevin's house. so i turned around or at least tried to b/c i was stuck, see, i knew to prepare. thankfully, i didn't panic, rocked the car a little and was able to get unstuck. backtracked through the mountains again and drove until i had coverage.
well, i called keith and we proceeded to have a discussion about the directions. what he failed to mention was that there was a big ole' sign that led up to their house. you can't miss it! anyway, i found the house, fed the sweet kitties, and made my way home one proud lady that i did this with a little help from my husband.
btw, i had called matt and tasha to let them know that i was going "into the mountains" and if they hadn't heard from me in an hour or so to send help!!!
